Asylum/Refugee Rights

Positions Available:

  • 2-3 Positions Available: Interpreting for Asylum Preparations (Hybrid: Virtual & In-Person)

  • 1-2 Positions Available: Spanish Interpretation for Declaration and Asylum Interviews (Hybrid: Virtual & In-Person)

Time Commitments: 4hrs/week

Qualifications: Strong Spanish Speaking Skills Preferred 

​

If you are interested in:

  • Working with asylees and refugees from the moment they first walk in to the EBSC until after they receive the results of their asylum application

  • Working primarily with clients from Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador whom have faced politically-motivated violence, domestic violence, or persecution because of their sexual preferences

​

Tasks:

  • Collecting basic documents and facts that are used along with comprehensive declarations created between the intern and client that explains why a client is afraid and unable to return to his or her home country

  • Serving as an interpreter during attorney and client meetings, preparing for court declarations

  • Translating Asylum Declarations 

  • Flexibility with various tasks

Support Services and Referral Program 

Support Services Program

Positions Available:

  • 2-4 Positions Available (Virtual)

​

Time Commitments: 4hrs/wk

Qualifications: Strong Spanish and/or Mam Skills Preferred, may be able to take up to one English speaker but would strongly prefer Spanish  

​

Tasks:

  • New program at EBSC to help community during this difficult time, mostly community outreach

  • Helping connect community members with resources 

  • Translating

  • Strong initiative, empathy, interest in calling and helping community members 

  • Organizing files

  • Flexibility, strong communication skills

​

Residency (Green  Card/Naturalization)

Residency

Positions Available:

  • 1 Position Available: digitalizing files, inputing data, calling clients (In-Person)

  • 1 Position Available: document translations, calling clients (Virtual)

​

Time Commitments: 4hrs/wk

Qualifications: Strong Spanish skills, comfortable with making calls to clients

If you are interested in:

  • Understanding the legal processes of applying towards U.S. residency or citizenship

​

Tasks:

  • ​Digitizing naturalization cases 

  • Inputing and logging case information on databases 

  • Calling Clients for Biometric Appointments 

  • MediCal letter translations, other document translations

  • Flexibility with various tasks

Community Development and Media

CDM

Positions Available:

  • 1-2 Positions Available (Hybrid: Virtual & In-Person)

Time Commitments: 4hrs/wk

Qualifications: No spanish skills required, graphic design, social media, writing skills, strong communication skills

If you are interested in:

  • Interested in working with community members outside of the EBSC

  • Event planning

​

Tasks:

  • Database management

  • Website management

  • Grant research  

  • Event planning

    • ​Assist with EBSCs 40th anniversary campaign  

  • Flexibility with various tasks

Office Administration 

Adminstration

Positions Available:

  • 1-2 Positions Available (Hybrid: Virtual & In-Person)

Qualifications: Strong Spanish Skills

If you are interested in:

  • Helping with the administration of EBSC

Tasks:

  • Transcribing voicemails

  • Making file copies if needed

  • Excel/Donar database

  • Flexibility, willing to do different tasks to support EBSC admin

Work Permit/Admn

  • Helping with work permits and administrative work

  • Translate documents

Anti-Racis Committee

Anti-Racism Committee

Positions Available:

  • 1 Position Available (Hybrid: Virtual & In-Person)

Time Commitments: 4hrs/wk

Qualifications: No spanish skills required

If you are interested in:

  • Helping with EBSCs mission towards anti-racism 

​

Tasks:

  • Supporting EBSCs anti-racist work

  • Research and document best practices 

  • Flexibility, willing to do different tasks

English as Second Language (ELS)

ESL

Positions Available:

  • 2 Positions Available (Virtual)

​

Time Commitments: 4hrs/week (hours depend on ESL students)

Qualifications: Strong Spanish Skills

​

If you are interested in:

  • Teaching English through Zoom 

  • Preparing lesson plans

​

Tasks:

  • Each ESL student will be paired up with a tutor who will assist them weekly according to their needs

​

Amplifying Sanctuary Voices (ASV)

Positions Available:

  • 3-4 Positions Available (Hybrid: Virtual and In Person)

​

Time Commitments: 4hrs/week 

​

If you are interested in:

  • Participating in a Oral History Project that centers the lives of refugees and immigrants 

​

Tasks:

  • Conduct, transcribe, and/or edit oral history interviews (primarily conducted in Spanish)

  • Host, plan, and implement arts-based trauma-informed workshops for EBSC clients and the larger East Bay migrant community

  • Research and summarize academic articles and news pieces regarding particular countries and immigration issues for more succinct background information

  • Host and conduct advocacy workshops for willing storytellers who would like to share their story in advancing public campaigns for refugee and immigrant rights

  • Flexibility, willing to do different tasks
